Our First Conference on May 24th:

ZOOMUN hosted a fantastic and successful inaugural conference on Sunday, May 24th. The conference began with an opening ceremony, open to all delegates, faculty advisors, and even parents, where attendees heard from Dr. George Liakeas, a New York City civil surgeon. Dr. Liakeas contracted the virus while treating patients and was subsequently put on a respirator for twelve days. His insights about the virus and the nation's response left our audience with a heightened understanding of the pandemic and our individual roles in mitigating its harmful effects.

Next, delegates broke up into three committees to discuss prevalent issues within our global community. Individuals in the World Health Organization committee discussed the COVID-19 pandemic, those in the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural discussed human trafficking, and finally, those in the Food and Agricultural Organization debated the #ZeroHungerMovement. The conversations that ensued were collaborative and intellectual in nature; we are so proud of all the delegates that participated!

ZOOMUN also got recognition on Good Day New York Fox News with Rosanna Scotto for helping the essential workers, as all of our proceeds went to the Direct Relief Fund.

Special congratulations to the three delegates who received the "Best Delegate" award for their work in committee: Carly Breecher, Sawyer Niehaus, and Charlotte Sandford. Overall, we had a blast at our first conference and cannot wait for the second one.
